Dr. Jamie Chaves is a pediatric occupational therapist with 13 years of experience supporting families and teachers alike. Much of Jamie's career has focused on sensory integration and feeding, both of which are rooted in the concepts of nervous system regulation and positive relationships. She embraces the dearth of research stating that children need vast opportunities to explore their sensory systems through play, and that outdoor play holds the key to positive development and regulation. In addition to doing therapy with kids and their families, Jamie also supports teachers in fostering sensory-rich opportunities in the classroom that drive engagement, learning, handwriting skills, attention, and fine/gross motor development. She is the co-author of two books, The Why Behind Classroom Behaviors and Creating Sensory Smart Classrooms, both of which serve to broaden teachers' understanding of behavior and change the strategies used to address neurodiversity in the classroom. As a mom of three young kids, you can often find Jamie at the beach, Legoland, or any playground around San Marcos, CA. Running is what she does to regulate and reflect.
